On March 16, 1991 Reba McEntire suffered an unimaginable loss.

That was the day that a plane crash claimed the lives of 7 members of the Reba's band, plus her tour manager.

Reba was suffering from bronchitis that kept herself from boarding that plane.

On March 15, Reba played a private show in the San Diego.

After the show, the band planned to fly from San Diego to Fort Wayne for their next gig.

But Reba was still ill that night so she elected to stay back in San Diego for a night with her then-husband, Narvel Blackstock.

The rest of her team left in aircraft but they never made it to Fort Wayne.

Plane crashed into an Otay Mountain peak killing all 10 people on board, which included Reba's tour manager, crew and band members, pilot and co-pilot.

McEntire's illness might well have saved her life that night.
