Joan Jett was a tomboy as a child.

She started playing guitar and drums at age 9.

At the age of 15 she moved out of her house.

The same year, she founded her own band, ‘The Runaways'.

Her teacher once threw her out of her voice lessons. The teacher didn’t like the way Jett was dressed.

Joan Jett has been described as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the Godmother of Punk.

Her single, “I Love Rock And Roll” went to No.1 on the Billboard charts in 1982.

She became one of the first female artists to found her own record label. 

In 2015, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

She took the stage name 'Joan Jett' from a Muddy Waters song called 'Bad Reputation.'
